This summer at ServiceMaster Brands®, three graduate students from the Georgia Institute of Technology join our team as interns. Working as part of the Transformation Team, these graduate students have been vital in producing innovative tools and resources to help our franchisees grow their businesses.

One of those students is Tymirra Smith – read below to learn more about Tymirra as she shares her experience with ServiceMaster Brands®!

Tell us a little bit about yourself.

I’m a second-year Master’s student in the Human Computer Interaction (MS-HCI) program at Georgia Tech! I’m a huge robotics enthusiast and passionate about getting girls involved in robotics/STEM. Before starting graduate school, I worked for a year as a Toy Designer and ran my startup, the Steminista Collective. As of November 2022, I will have worked at ServiceMaster as a User Experience Intern for 12 months. In my free time, I like to spend time with my two dogs, Twilight and Sage; reading, and crocheting.

What is it about ServiceMaster Brands® that made you want to work here?

The opportunity to work with a wide variety of franchise owners amongst the many brands and learn about their businesses and their day-to-day needs is what excited me the most. Working directly with the franchisees has been the highlight of my experience at ServiceMaster! The relationships we’ve built with franchisees across many of the brands that are part of ServiceMaster Brands® have been instrumental in making it possible to execute the user-centered design process.

Where do you see your career in five years?

In five years, I see myself working as a senior user experience designer leading a team in conducting meaningful user research and designing effective and high-value digital and physical solutions.

What’s a project you’re working on that you’re excited about?

The project I’m most excited about right now is version two of the Merry Maids® Lead Form. Working with franchisees and brand leadership to develop this form and getting to see how franchisees have found it valuable has been a really exciting part of this project! It was a great learning experience in terms of executing a website pilot to see how we can help our franchisees grow.

Who’s your everyday hero?

My everyday hero is my mom because she constantly inspires me to reach for the stars and not be afraid of change!

What’s your favorite ServiceMaster Brands® value and why?

My favorite ServiceMaster Brands® value is “We Deliver” because this is so important when it comes to building trust with both franchisees and customers. Without that trust, meaningful collaboration throughout the design and research process cannot exist.

How would you describe the ServiceMaster Brands® atmosphere to someone interested in working here?

I would describe the atmosphere as welcoming and collaborative. My team members are always willing to help if I have any questions, and if they can’t answer my questions then they will connect me with someone who can! Working with such a collaborative team has made all the difference in my experience here.
