Growing up in a small town in Illinois, where opportunities were limited and the future often seemed to lead to factory work, Tony Vogel, Regional Business Development Manager for ServiceMaster Brands sought a different path. The military offered a way to serve his country while gaining valuable skills and experiences that would shape his future. This decision provided life-changing lessons and traits that have stayed with Tony ever since.

Tony’s military service with the United States Navy taught him to lead by example, demonstrating the behavior and work ethic he would expect to see from others. In the military, leaders are trained to make decisions under pressure, maintain focus on the mission, and lead by example. Effective leadership is all about setting clear expectations, being decisive, and taking responsibility for both successes and failures.

The importance of discipline, teamwork, and staying calm under pressure were key lessons from Tony’s military career that have been invaluable in his civilian career roles, helping him to lead effectively, manage stress, and collaborate with diverse teams to achieve common goals.

Leaving the Navy as an E-4 Petty Officer Third Class, transitioning from military to civilian life presented challenges, as his role in the service didn’t directly translate to the civilian job market. Starting over in an entry-level position, Tony worked his way through various roles, eventually becoming a highly successful B2B sales representative. While the transition was a bit humbling, it taught resilience, adaptability, and the value of hard work in achieving success.

As a Regional Business Development Manager for ServiceMaster Brands, Tony oversees the Southeast territory, including GA, FL, AL, NC, SC, and VA. In this role, he sells contract janitorial services to the education, healthcare, and industrial sectors.

For Tony, Veteran’s Day is a poignant reminder that freedom is not free. It is a time to thank our active-duty members and veterans for their sacrifices. ServiceMaster Brands supports veterans and their families through various initiatives, ensuring they receive the recognition and support they deserve.

For veterans transitioning to civilian careers, Tony advises taking advantage of the numerous programs and resources available. Additionally, effective time management and setting clear boundaries are crucial for balancing professional responsibilities with personal life. Staying organized and planning ahead allows Tony to maintain a healthy balance and give his best effort both at work and at home.

Looking ahead, Tony is excited to embrace the ‘empty nester’ stage with his high school sweetheart and enjoy this new chapter of their lives together. Professionally, he aims to continue growing and leading initiatives that make a positive impact.

This Veteran’s Day, join us in honoring the service and sacrifices of our veterans like Tony, recognizing the invaluable contributions they have made to our country and communities.
