Southeast Summer |
Summer is often the peak of insect activity. Brown recluse and black widow spiders may move out of crawl spaces and other areas in search of food. Crazy ants, white-footed ants, ghost ants, odorous house ants and fire ants continue to expand their colonies and often enter into homes. Argentine and carpenter ants are attracted to fruit trees, flowers and other sources of food. During the summer, lights attract crickets by the dozens, or even hundreds, and these insects may enter the home through cracks and holes. Warm weather and outdoor activities with pets mean more fleas in your living areas, while scorpions may enter your home in search of prey. American, Australian, and smoky brown cockroaches are also active.
