Seasonal & Regional Pest Management Tips

Southeast – Spring

Spring brings with it an outburst of insect activity. Homeowners in the Southeast need to be aware of several types of activities. Subterranean termites have major swarms in May and June as colonies begin producing winged reproductives that emerge to found new colonies. Swarming usually occurs on warm days following a heavy rain, and if a colony is established nearby it is just a matter of time before the termites attack the home. See our Tips for Control for information on how you can reduce your risks.

Mice are actively foraging at this time of year, and may enter your home in search of food. Ants are active, too. Carpenter ants, like termites, swarm during the spring as they seek to establish new colonies. Crazy ants and fire ants may move into your home through cracks and holes. Pharoah ants will seek to establish colonies near moisture, so watch for these pests in the kitchen and bathroom. American and smoky brown cockroaches are also looking for new homes, and may enter your home during the spring.
