Rat
Appearance
Rats may grow up to a foot long and weigh up to one pound. Color can vary from brown to black.

Behavior
Rats are excellent climbers and can crawl through small openings and cracks. They are most likely to enter homes during the fall and winter in search of food.

Habitat
Many areas of the home, including stacked firewood, debris, and piles of leaves.

Treatment
Rat infestations almost always require professional treatment. Preventative measures include: sealing all cracks and holes; keeping firewood, stacks of bricks, etc. away from the home; and not allowing piles of debris to accumulate.
