Heat and Air Tips

Heating Efficiency

Every year, as the heating bills mount, we begin to realize just how important having an efficient heating system can be. That's especially true as our heating costs rise to double, even triple their normal amount!

Here are some simple things the heating and air conditioning experts suggest that can not only save your heat, but money, too:
  • Install weatherstripping around doors and windows.
  • Keep fireplace dampers closed when fireplaces aren't in use (just remember to open them again when your fireplace is going).
  • Experiment with a slightly lower temperature.
  • Make sure your thermostat is working correctly.
  • Open blinds and curtains on the sunny side of your home to bring the sun's heat in during the day. Then close them in the evening to trap the heat.
If you're still not happy with your heating system's performance, maybe your system itself needs some help. Heating equipment purchased these days runs at around 90% efficiency, compared to 50% only 10-15 years ago. So it might even be a good idea to upgrade your system. Use a professional and have this helpful service performed.

However, there are several other things you can do to tame an unruly heating system. A heating system tune-up can help keep your environmental systems running smoothly and efficiently year-round!
