Central Air System Troubleshooting
When outside temperatures heat up, nothing's more annoying than
nagging air conditioner troubles. To help keep your air conditioning
working through the dog days, heating and air conditioner experts offer you the following tips to give you relief
from the heat.
If water leaks into the walls or ceiling (attic installations):
Check for a clogged drain hose from your air conditioner's condenser
pan. Make sure the hose is able to empty the water.
If the unit constantly cycles on and off:
The culprit may be a clog in the evaporator unit. Check the fan, and, if there is
blockage, clean it out.
If the air conditioner doesn't get cold enough:
A few things may be causing the problem:
- If the unit has a dirty condenser coil, clean air will have
difficulty circulating around the fan. Clean out any debris.
- Sun shining directly on the evaporator unit puts stress on the
system. Create shade for the unit.
- If insulation has fallen off the feed line, replace it.
Your air conditioning system can be complicated, and, in many cases,
may require professional help.
